Patients that have undergone surgery to create an ileostomy or internal pouch (e.g. J pouch) may be susceptible to kidney problems in particular AKI (acute kidney injury). This is more likely in the event of a high-output stoma or pouch (typically greater than 1500 ml/ 24 hour period.
